For a premium crossover of this size, the X1 for the 2020 model year is worth $36,195 for the sDrive28i. The $250 price hike over the pre-facelift shouldn’t come as a surprise given the automaker’s improvements.
The compact yet intrepid sports activity vehicle comes with a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive as standard, translating to 228 horsepower, 6.6 seconds to 60 miles per hour, and 32 miles to the gallon. Opting for xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive improves the acceleration by 0.3 seconds, but don’t forget the fuel efficiency takes a dip in the process.

The M Sport visual package is a must for the X1, and for the 2020 model year in the U.S., customers are treated to three additional colors for the bodywork. These are Misano Blue, Storm Bay, as well as Jucaro Beige. Another change worth highlighting is Estoril Blue, which has been dropped.

In regard to what comes standard, even the most tech-savvy customers will be glad to hear that 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment is included. Satellite navigation and subscription-based Apple CarPlay connectivity are also standard, along with an eight-speed automatic transmission from Aisin.

The F8FXX gearbox in the F48 debuted a few years back in the Lexus RX 350 F Sport, and a lot of other automakers utilize it. Some of them include Volvo in the XC90, Toyota in the Camry, Volkswagen in the Jetta, as well as Opel in the Insignia sedan and station wagon.

If you’re in the market for a more performance-oriented crossover the size of the X1, BMW has got you covered with the X2. Beyond the sDrive28i and xDrive28i, the coupe-styled model is available in M35i flavor at $46,450 excluding destination charge.

It’s not known why BMW can’t make a case for the 300-plus-horsepower option in the X1 as well, but nevertheless, this engine-transmission combo is mirrored by the 1 Series in M135i flavor. On that note, would you take the X1 into consideration or would you choose something else at this price point?
