Now that the BMW 8 Series Coupe can be seen in traffic, we can look ahead to other members of the 8er family. You see, back in the days when the original 8 Series was launched, the niche market wasn't nearly as rich as it is today. And with the Bavarians being dedicated to filling up such niches, we'll get the new 8er in Coupe, Cabriolet and Gran Coupe trims, with all of these set to receive M versions.
We're not referring to M Performance machines here (for the record, the M850i Coupe has already landed), but to all-out M Division toys instead. And we'll once again remind you of the first 8 Series, which was deemed to heavy for the performance requirements of the Motorsport division.

And we now wish to zoom in on the most niche-savvy model of them all, namely the 2020 BMW M8 Gran Coupe.

Of course, the arrival of the family-friendly Autobahn stormer was prepared by the car it partially replaces, namely the M6 Gran Coupe. However, the upmarket move allowed by the 8er badge means this flagship model will be even more exciting.

Many tech goodies of the M8 GC will be borrowed from the F90 M5. This means the engine compartment of the newcomer will be filled by a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 producing 600 hp in standard trim - we're also expecting a Competition model to show up, with this delivering a boost of at least 25 horsepower.

Here's to hoping the future model will also inherit the configurable all-paw hardware of the M5, allowing the driver to switch between AWD and RWD when the need for slip angle adventures kicks in.

We're expecting the German automaker to introduce the M8 Gran Coupe next year, as a 2020 model.

Meanwhile, you can check out a prototype of the four-door GT in the social media post below, which portrays the machine doing its testing thing in the proximity of the Nurburgring. Oh, and you can also check out the M8 Gran Coupe Concept in the photo gallery above.
