For nearly five decades the three stripes in light blue, dark blue and red fitted on BMW cars have stood for high performance. Usually, these colors are placed discreetly on the vehicle, letting only those who know what they represent understand what these cars are capable of. But not in the new M4 Edition Heritage.
At the DTM race on the Nürburgring next week, BMW will show for the first time in public a special version of the M4, the car that forms the basis of the carmaker’s DTM racer. Designed as a limited edition, the new M4 is meant to pay tribute to the three M colors.

Seven hundred fifty units of the variant will be made and sold between November this year and April 2020, painted in either Laguna Seca Blue, Velvet Blue metallic and Imola Red. Each is adorned with decorative strips in the BMW M colors across the roof.

The exterior color scheme is mirrored inside, where each color of the M seats is chosen to emphasize the exterior paint. For instance, says BMW, in the case of the M4 finished in Imola Red, the seat colors Red and Black correspond with yellow and red contrast stitching.

The wheels for this vehicle have been revised as well. The new version of the M4 rides on 20-inch M light-alloy wheels in a star spoke design fitted with mixed tires.

Attesting the car’s limited edition are emblems on the interior trim strips, the door sills and front headrests.

No modifications have been made to the car’s powertrain. The M4 Edition Heritage uses the same straight six-cylinder engine deployed on the regular production version, developing 450 hp.

BMW did not say how much each of the new M4s will cost. Full details on the edition can be found in the document attached below.
