But before that happens, the new version of the car had to meet its European customers, and it did so on the grounds of the continent's most important auto event of the fall, the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The RS 6 Avant is the eight model in the RS lineup, and the newest. It was unveiled online just a few days ago as the most exciting proposition in its segment.

Powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and a mild hybrid 48-volt main electrical system, the RS 6 develops 600 hp and 800 Nm of torque, for an acceleration figure of 3.6 seconds and a limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).

But as with all things in life, limited is a relative term. To make sure it gets a grip on the new market, Audi offers the chance to get the top speed to a higher level, using one of two optional dynamic packages. Depending on which one you choose, the needle tops at either 280 km/h (174 mph) or 305 km/h (189 mph).

The new RS 6 Avant looks ages ahead of the vehicle it is based on. First off, it is 40 mm wider on each side than the A6, a reality enhanced by the much flatter and wider Singleframe grille, and the big 21-inch wheels in 10-spoke design.

Being a car meant to be driven to the extreme, it comes with an RS Monitor, showing relevant information about key vehicle components, such as temperature, the status of the drive components, the maximum g acceleration.

And finally, there are over 30 assist technologies featured, including intersection assist, lane change warning, curb warning, and 360-degree cameras.

The new Audi RS 6 Avant will be on sale in Europe by the end of 2019, and a short time after that in the U.S. For the old European market, the price of the car was set to start €117,500.
