When Marc Lichte arrived at Audi, he quickly moved to change the company's design language and previewed it all with the Prologue concept, which has influenced the A6, A7, and A8. However, he was too late to change the smaller A4 and the Q7.
Earlier this year, the A4 got a facelift after some testing over the summer. It's very modest stuff, including, but we thought that was that. But another A4 Avant with a second facelift just popped up on our winter testing radar.

This time around, the front end is entirely different, featuring the oversized hexagon grille connected directly to more streamlined headlights. There are other changes too, like the bumpers and taillights. It looks like the A4 is also suffering from fake exhaust syndrome, but you've got to take the good with the bad.

We can't get a complete read on this prototype, which seems to have an S-specific look, reminiscent of the SQ5. Obviously, the whole model range - sedan, wagon, allroad, RS - will have to be looked at.

Some of the rumored half-billion euros which this facelift is expected to cost will go towards the interior. The A4 already has a great cabin, with the best soft-touch materials and ergonomically arranged controls. But people say it's too sober, which is why we're going to see the smaller version of the A6 double dashboard screens.

Thanks to the emissions standards changing, Audi had to install brand new engines this year, so they aren't going to do anything significant during the second facelift. This includes things like the 35 and 40 TFSI with 150 and 190 HP versions of 2-liter turbo. The TDI also has the 12-volt mild hybrid system borrowed from the A6.

We're still waiting for the 3-liter units, but the S4 is probably going to have 10-20 hp more to compete with the M340i and C43 facelift.
