As you already know, Alfa Romeo’s revival gave us two products up to the present moment. Following the Giulia and Stelvio, another sport utility vehicle is in the pipeline, and according to Pogea Racing, an all-new 6C.
Based on the number of cylinders of the 4C (four) and 8C (eight), the 6C is entitled to no less than six of them. The engine is most likely to come in the form of the 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 from the Giulia Quadrifoglio, developed with Ferrari know-how to develop 510 horsepower and 600 Nm (440 pound-feet) of torque in the super sedan.

Bearing in mind the Giulia in Quadrifoglio attire can be specified with a six-speed manual transmission and an eight-speed automatic, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if Alfa Romeo would pull something similar with the 6C. The 6C that’s codenamed Tipo 963 and would be available as a coupe and spider according to a report on the automaker’s €5 billion investment for an eight car lineup that was originally planned for completion by 2018.

The plan, as you know from our constant coverage of all things Alfa Romeo, has been once delayed to 2020. But more recently, chief executive officer Sergio Marchionne made it clear that 2022 is the more realistic date of finalization, which is four years off the initial product plan’s target.

“From an absolute trustworthy and legit source we were informed that the Alfa Romeo 6C will be a part of the Alfa Romeo product line,” writes Pogea Racing on Facebook, adding that the long-anticipated 6C would go official in 2020. The design of the vehicle, however, is anticipated to be revealed this or next year at an auto show. The question is, can we believe a report coming from a German tuning shop specialized in Alfa Romeo?

Not even Pogea Racing can tell despite the fact it started the post with “ALFA 6C CONFIRMED” written in bold letters. Here’s how the cookie crumbles, along with our hopes: “Let’s hope this is true, we know this person that is very deep into the decisions of the management of Alfa Romeo and all he said in the past became reality.”

The 6C lineage started in the 1920s with the 1500 Series, then came to a rest in the 1950s with the discontinuation of the 3000 Series. These are some of the Italian automaker’s most beautiful and motorsport-accomplished cars ever. With that sort of pedigree, we’re keeping our fingers crossed the all-new model – if it ever happens – will be good enough to carry the torch.
