Over in the United Kingdom, there’s a company based in Keighley called KAP Suzuki specialized in converting the Jimny off-road SUV into a pickup truck. But in Japan, none other than the automaker decided to perform the conversion in-house for the Tokyo Auto Salon 2019.
Scheduled to open its doors in mid-January, the show is an extravaganza of custom builds such as the Jimny Sierra Pickup Style. Stylish it surely is, but we’re not too sure about the wood paneling on the sides or how the wheels complement the paintwork.
A different front bumper with two hooks and an integrated skid plate are also present, along with black-painted plastic wheel arches and four LED clusters mounted on top of the sports bar. The retro-licious Jimny doesn’t have that large of a bed, but it’s good enough considering the size of the mini-SUV from the Land of the Rising Sun.
The Jimny Survive is the second concept that Suzuki prepared for the Tokyo Auto Salon 2019, and it’s more or less a bug-out mobile for an adventure-oriented lifestyle. This one-off is based on the non-Sierra model, which is classified as a kei car in Japan.
What that means in terms of oily bits is 0.66 liters, three cylinders, and a turbocharger. The same engine is used in the Caterham Seven 160, packing 64 PS (63 horsepower) in this application compared to the British sports car’s 81 PS (80 horsepower).
A Swift Sport that appears to have watched too much The Fast and the Furious completes the list of concepts that Suzuki will showcase at the Japanese motor show. Other than a lowered suspension, carbon-fiber lip spoiler, carbon-fiber bar in the front grille, and boyracer-inspired headlight covers, the Yellow Rev also exhibits lightweight alloy wheels wrapped in performance tires from Continental. Decals that look as if they’re longing for the early-2000s complete this build.
