We've known about the mid-life facelift of the Megane GT since it was "revealed" by some leaked images in July 2017. As we're getting closer to its debut, Renault's engine changes seem like it might affect it.
As a hot hatch, the 205 horsepower hatch is irrelevant. But it was a huge success compared to all the other Megane GT models, due to its technology package: standard twin-clutch gearbox and all-wheel-steering.

The Megane facelift could debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show, and we want to talk about a few possible engine changes. But let's start with what's currently on offer. First, there's the 1.6-liter that it came out. It's similar to the one in the Clio RS, but produces 205 HP and 280 Nm of torque.

There's also a slightly less popular diesel model with a twin-turbo 1.6-liter producing 165 HP and 380 Nm of torque. So why are we saying a 1.8-liter turbo might be used?

First of all, there's a new Clio RS coming out in about a year. Rumor has it the engine will be a 1.8-liter producing around 220 horsepower instead of the current 1.6-liter. Given the vice-like grip of the new emissions tests, we doubt Renault will take the time to develop two performance engines with the same output.

What's more, such an engine is already available in the large Espace, where it delivers 225 HP. With such a setup, the Megane GT would be worth picking up again.

Furthermore, it's looking like Renault wants to drop the 1.6-liter diesel engine. We know that because the Kadjar facelift just debuted with a new 1.8-liter singe-turbo making 150 horsepower. It's got AdBlue, and we think the Megane would need that too.

That's 15 less than in the Megane GT, which could be rectified with a sportier setup or left as-is. Opel recently took 10 horsepower away from its Astra twin-turbo 1.6-liter diesel.
