Even though it shares the platform with the previous generation of the Audi Q5, Porsche’s Macan is better for the 2019 model year. With the mid-cycle facelift, the compact luxury crossover also happens to be more expensive than before. Pricing starts at $49,900 excluding $1,050 for delivery, and the first examples for the U.S. will arrive at dealers by summer 2019.
Scheduled to premiere in North America at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Macan now features a three-dimensional LED panel at the rear and LED headlights as standard. The taillights connect from one end to the other in a similar fashion to the Cayenne and Panamera, as well as the 911 sports car.

Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus remains an optional extra, improving lighting while cornering. The exterior modifications are complemented by new colors options, starting with Chalk and ending with Dolomite Silver Metallic, Mamba Green Metallic, and Miami Blue.

Hopping inside the Macan, the 10.9-inch HD touchscreen featuring Porsche Communication Management is the first thing that captures your attention. The interface can be customized by moving the tiles to the desired position and by choosing their respective functions from a list. So to speak, Porsche took a lesson from the world of smartphones.

Porsche Connect Plus with 4G LTE module and WLAN hotspot, online navigation, as well as HERE Cloud for route calculation are all standard. For some reason or other, Apple CarPlay is an optional extra. Speaking of which, Traffic Jam Assist has been integrated into the adaptive cruise control system, also optional.

On the suck-squeeze-bang-blow front, the 2019 Macan comes with a four-cylinder turbo with 248 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. A seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission helps the crossover spring to 60 miles per hour in 6.3 seconds. Opt for Launch Control and the Sport Chrono package, and you’re looking at 6.1 seconds.

As with the pre-facelift, Porsche Traction Management all-wheel drive is set up with bias towards the rear axle, giving the Macan sharper handling characteristics than segment rivals. Wheel diameters range from 18 to 21 inches, but we wouldn’t go for the largest wheels because those upset the ride and are far easier to damage on potholed roads.

Customers can choose the GT Sport steering wheel if they want to feel like they’re in a 911. The list of options continues with goodies such as a heated windshield and an air ionizer that works in conjunction with a fine particulate filter to improve the quality of the air inside the Macan.
