The 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS took the motoring realm by storm with its sub-7 Nurburgring lap time. With just 520 horsepower (this isn't all that much nowadays), the Porscha managed to blitz the Green Hell in 6:56.4. So, how does that number translate into the real world?
You see, there are plenty of difference between the official Ring lap times and the adventures that take place in real life.
The first involves Porsche drivers whose error margin is obviously much smaller than that of "civilians". The works hooners also have the track to themselves, while the latter need to share it with others, whether we're talking about more relaxed traffic (think: private track day events) or the mayhem that is the Touristenfahrten (Tourist Days) traffic.
Oh, and we also have to mention that TF events are run using the Bridge To Gantry layoyt of the infamous German track, which skips the main straight top speed run for obvious safety reasons.
Well, we are now here to deliver a sample of such a TF run, with this coming from the owner of a 991.2 GT3 RS who has spend plenty of time on the Nordschleife.
The man mentions that the Porscha is completely stock, riding on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 N1 tires. Timing is not officially allowed during public laps, but a little birdie told the aficionado he managed to complete the task in 7:29.
"Car feels good, but indeed I need a Manthey setup to get more stability and confidence. But still, my fastest time with the RS is :21” with traffic. I believe my limit will be in :10-15” with the stock setup and some safety margin. Can’t wait for the new season," the gearhead explained in the comments section of the YouTube video showcasing the run, which you can find below.
Oh, and in case you're wondering what that custom setup is all about, you should know that Manthey Racing is a Porsche-owned entity that loves to tune street cars and run racecars. Heck, their aero- and chassis-tweaked GT2 RS managed to lap the Green Hell in 6:40.3, a full seven seconds that the factory car.
