Porsche is busy working on its electrification plans these days, with a recent Nurburgring spy session showing the Taycan EV and the 992 911, which will receive at least one hybrid version, testing together. However, Zuffenhausen also has time to develop its internal combustion specials, with the 2019 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 being one of them.
The introduction of the second-gen GT4 should take place by the end of the year, with prototypes currently roaming around almost camo-free. In fact, we've brought along a recent sighting of the 911-powered mid-engined machine, with this appearing to have been snapped in the proximity of the Nurburgring, at least if we trust the hashtags in the Instagram post at the bottom of the page.
Porsche has already confirmed that the 718 Cayman GT4 will maintain the naturally aspirated flat-six tradition and previous prototype sightings have shows us the voice of its engine.
And since the 4.0-liter boxer animating the 991.2 911 GT3 and GT3 RS is the only remaining atmospheric engine in the Zuffenhausen lineup, we're expecting this to find its way into the mid-engined vehicle. However, while the unit delivers 500 and 520 hp, respectively, its output should sit closer to 400 ponies for the 718 Cayman.
Once again, the German automotive producer will only offer the coupe with a manual, as throwing a PDK in the mix would increase the risk of 911 cannibalization.
However, you will still be able to get a dual-clutch unit, but only when going for the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport, the racetrack version of the sportscar. It's worth noting that the circuit version has also been spied, with this set to arrive soon after the introduction of the road-going model.
Now, we can't talk about the GT4 without also mentioning the 2019 Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder and here are some spyshots of the open-top toy. Note that the Boxster Spyder won't be alone in its quest to promote soft tops as works of art, since Porsche will also introduce the 2019 911 Speedster by the end of the year.
