If it’s a new mid-size pickup truck you’re after, Nissan has the cheapest of the lot. The Frontier carries on with the same underpinnings it launched in 2004 (D40; second generation), starting at $18,990 excluding the $995 destination charge.
Even though it was expected the Frontier would switch to the D23 (third generation) for the 2019 model year, Nissan couldn’t make that happen. Be that as it may, the Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant has been confirmed to gear up for the newcomer.

Bearing the title “America’s most affordable pickup,” the 2019 Nissan Frontier also happens to be better equipped compared to the previous model year. The entry-level S and SV trim levels now feature 7.0-inch color audio display touchscreen infotainment. The Cayenne Red Metallic exterior color, meanwhile, benefits from expanded availability.

The third trim level is the Desert Runner ($26,300), after which the Pro-4X rounds off the lineup at $33,430. In addition to the five-speed manual transmission that comes standard, the Frontier is available with a torque-converter automatic that features five forward gears.

As ever, the King Cab body style is joined by the Crew Cab and the 2.5-liter inline-four can be swapped for a 4.0-liter V6. The most expensive configuration is the Frontier SL Crew Cab 4x4 SWB V6 5AT, coming in at $36,850.

Introduced for the 2018 model year, the Midnight Edition Package (pictured) carries on for 2019. Available exclusively on the Crew Cab SV 4x2 and 4x4 with the automatic transmission, the design package adds 18-inch gloss black aluminum-alloy wheels, grille, step rails, mirror caps and door handles, badges, as well as body-color front and rear bumpers. Despite the name, the Midnight can be had in Magnetic Black, Gun Metallic, and Glacier White.

When equipped with the four-cylinder engine and manual transmission, the Frontier averages 19 miles per gallon in the city and 23 miles per gallon on the highway. If towing is more important than fuel economy, the V6 has 261 horsepower and 281 pound-feet to offer.
