On sale since 2015, the fifth generation of the L200 has received the mid-cycle refresh it deserved. Also known as the Triton, the mid-size pickup from Mitsubishi will launch in Thailand on November 17th for the 2019 model year.
Mitsubishi will sell the one-ton truck in 150 countries around the world, making it one of the most important products in the lineup. "The new L200 is one of our most important global strategic models. Its success will accelerate the momentum of the company's sustainable growth,” said chief executive officer Osamu Masuko.

By incorporating the Dynamic Shield design language from the Eclipse Cross, the L200 looks futuristic for a mid-size pickup. But the facelift is more than just visual improvements. Take the Super-Select 4WD and Easy-Select 4WD as prime examples, which feature an Off-Road Mode for additional performance on gravel, mud, snow, and, and rock.

Off-Road Mode controls “engine power, transmission, and braking to regulate the amount of wheel slip.” Hill Descent Control is also available, enabling the driver to negotiate steep or slipper descents with more assurance than ever before.

Mitsubishi has also improved braking performance with the use of larger-diameter discs and caliper pistons. The ride also promises to be better thanks to more damping oil in the larger rear dampers. Sticking to the oily bits, the automatic transmissions levels up from five to six forward gears, enabling “more powerful acceleration and improved refinement.”

On the safety front, Mitsubishi claims “class-leading advanced active safety and driver assistance systems” thanks to additions such as the Ultrasonic Misacceleration Mitigation System, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Warning, and Forward Collision Mitigation.

As far as the interior is concerned, the big news here is the stitching on the floor console, armrests, and parking brake, along with the soft-pad materials and frame surroundings for the switch panel and air outlets.

Mitsubishi plans to sell 180,000 examples of the breed this fiscal year, making the L200 the second biggest seller in the lineup after the Outlander mid-size crossover utility vehicle. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, and knowing the Japanese automaker, the redesigned pickup will not be added to the North American range of models.
