Did anybody need extra confirmation on the topic of the C8-generation Corvette switching to a mid-engined layout? Not really, but the latest spyshots of the Chevy halo machine deliver it anyway. A prototype of the 2019 Corvette has recently been spotted doing its thing at McDonald's, which might just mean that old-school aficionados mustn't worry about the layout transformation turning the 'Vette into a machine that's too sophisticated for the simple aficionado.
On a more serious note, the supercar's company, which is comprised of various GM behemoths, along with a C7 Corvette, only comes to back up the conclusion that we're looking at the mid-engined 'Vette - pixel tip to TX2K for the images.
And whil previous spyshots of the C8 model have shown less camouflage, the wheels on this prototype seems to be new - we're expecting this to be the production rollers.
The rumor mill talks about the C8 incarnation of the Chevrolet Corvette set to mark the debut of the trademarked LT5 V8. We're looking at a dual-overhead cam V8, which is said to bee too wide for the engine bay of the current car.
Even the tranny rumors are uber-hot, since GM's lightning-quick 10-speed torque converter gearbox could be skipped in favor of a a Tremec-sourced dual-clutch box.
We should get to meet the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette next year, with January's Detorit Auto Show being a possibility. For one thing, GM could offer the newcomer, which will obviously debut in non-special form, alongside the ZR1, with the swansong of the C7 expected to land later this year, at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
P.S.: Speaking of the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, we'll remind you that we're expecting the supercharged monster to be nothing short of a Nurburgring tamer, as we discussed earlier this year, when the front-engined delight blitzed the Green Hell with a camera taped to its nose.
