2019 Mercedes-Maybach A-Class Is Nothing But Wishful Thinking

The three-pointed star is more than a symbol and a brand. It’s a guarantee that the customer chose excellence over anything else. But even within Mercedes-Benz, excellence can go one step further thanks to Maybach.

Founded in 1909, acquired by Daimler-Benz in 1960, and revived in the early 2000s with the 57 and 62, Maybach is back stronger than ever before. The first Maybach-branded Mercedes of the modern era is the W222 S-Class, after which the automaker worked its magic on the A217 and W463 with the limited-edition S650 Cabriolet and G650 Landaulet.

There are plans to grow the sub-brand further than that, though Maybach will never ever get down to business with the W177. The all-new A-Class may be the most technologically advanced compact hatchback in its segment, but whichever way you look at it, there’s no case to be made for a Maybach version. Be that as it may, pixel artist Aksyonov Nikita had a go at imagining how the 2019 Mercedes-Maybach A-Class would look.

Rendered with the centerlock wheels and shiny grille of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet, the Mercedes-Maybach A-Class further ups the ante with not one, not two, but four AMG-like exhaust pipes. All in all, not a bad effort considering how cool the W177 looks as standard.

Revealed at the beginning of February and based on the Concept A Sedan, the fourth generation of the A-Class is also the first Mercedes-Benz to use the MBUX interface. The three-pointed star won’t sell the hatchback in the United States, though Canada will get it by the end of the year.

As it is the case today with the CLA Coupe, the A-Class Sedan that’s coming to the U.S. should be offered with at least three drivetrain options: 250, 250 4Matic, and the AMG-ified 45. Regarding the latter, the mad professors at Mercedes-AMG are expected to tweak the 2.0-liter M133 turbocharged four-cylinder to develop north of 400 metric horsepower.
