Mercedes-Benz pulled the wraps on Tuesday off the new version of the GLE SUV, a few weeks before the car is expected to be formally introduced at the Paris Motor Show.
The word of the day for this new version of the car that started life as the M-Class is technology. Mercedes went to great lengths to update the 3-year old model by including everything from the MBUX multimedia system to intelligent algorithms for comfort systems and mild hybrid engines.

Engine wise, the car will be launched in early 2019 with a choice of gasoline, diesel and later down the line a plug-in hybrid. The biggest novelty, for now, is the GLE 450 4MATIC that uses a mild-hybrid system.

This unit, to be the only one made available at market launch, comes packing 367 hp and 500 Nm of torque. An additional 22 hp and 250 Nm of torque can be squeezed for short periods of time from the EQ Boost system.

All new versions of the GLE, including the ones which will arrive later, will be controlled with the help of 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission.

As said, technology is the name of the game in the new three-pointed star SUV. Of course, the MBUX multimedia system leads the pack of additions and comes on the GLE with serious improvements as compared to the version debuted on the A-Class.

For the bigger GLE, the system comes with two large 12.3-inch (31.2) cm screens as standard, arranged one next to the other. Using a console-mounted camera, the screens detect when the hand of the driver approaches and appropriate functions are highlighted.

For driver assistance features, Mercedes spared no expense. Anything from Active Distance Assist to Active Tailback Assist are in. This latter function allows the GLE to recognize tailbacks at an early stage and support the driver in stop-and-go traffic up to about 60 km/h (37 mph).

There is no information yet on the prices for the new GLE. The full details on the SUV, as released by Mercedes, can be found in the document attached below.
