Ladies and gentlemen drivers, we're thrilled to talk about another move that will see the Mercedes-AMG GT family expanding. This time around, we're referring to a new range-topper, which has been tentatively named Mercedes-AMG GT R Clubsport.
Last year, we spotted a Mercedes-AMG GT R prototype sporting even meaner details on multiple occasions. For instance, the test car packed an uber-light polymer rear window.

Well, a similar test car has now been spotted at the Nurburgring, as you'll be able to notice in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page - you'll find the machine at the 0:35 point of the clip.

Large bits of the prototype are covered in camouflage and, given the extreme aerodynamic solutions we're expecting to see on the newcomer, this shouldn't come as a surprise.

Keep in mind that the provisional nameplate of the vehicle comes from none other than Mercedes-AMG head honcho Tobias Moers.

We’re also working a little bit on a GT R... something. It’ll be a bit more race track-oriented. It’s lightened a little bit but it’s more of a track day version, for fun on circuits. We’re not talking about a competition car - not a GT3 or a GT4, but more a Clubsport,” the exec explained earlier this year.

The Clubsport approach would help the Affalterbach toy fight Porsche's RS models. Of course, this would bring a focus on handling, but we mustn't overlook the muscle aspect.

As such, we could expect to see the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 passing the 600 hp border. Keep in mind that the GT R packs 585 ponies. Speaking of which, the clip also delivers a soundcheck and this only means the excitement level goes through the roof.

Of course, special materials are part of the job, which means we'll get to see new carbon fiber goodies.
