2019 Mazda3 SkyActiv-X Priced In the United Kingdom

No less than £23,555 on-the-road is the starting price of the 2019 Mazda3 with the industry-first engine called SkyActiv-X, a powerplant which exploits the benefits of compression ignition to provide 180 ponies and the highest compression ratio ever in a production gasoline engine. With the SkyActiv-X, the Mazda3 emits 96 grams of CO2 per kilometer which works out to 52.3 mpg on the combined driving cycle.

Spark Controlled Compression Ignition is the technology that separates the SkyActiv-X from the SkyActiv-G and other engines running on gasoline. Mazda M Hybrid 24-volt mild hybridization is also featured, recycling the kinetic energy recovered from braking. The Mazda3 will be offered with i-Activ all-wheel drive in the United Kingdom as long as you’re prepared to pay up for the GT Sport Tech trim level.

Both the sedan and hatchback are specified “with a level of standard equipment never seen before” according to Mazda, including a windshield projecting color head-up display with traffic sign recognition, LED headlamps, and radar cruise control. Ever trim level on offer is also equipped with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and satellite navigation among many other amenities.

Black leather seats are standard on the GT Sport while the GT Sport Tech levels up to a 360-degree camera system and Driver Monitoring System. Burgundy leather upholstery is available for 200 pounds sterling on both trim levels in the hatchback while the sedan can be had with Stone leather upholstery.

“I’m very excited about the arrival of the Skyactiv-X engine; this is another example of Mazda’s convention-defying powertrain innovation,” said managing director Jeremy Thomson. “Offering our customers a truly unique blend of fuel economy, low emissions, and performance from a petrol engine, Skyactiv-X adds a unique selling point to the all-new Mazda3.”

Another ground-breaking engine is the VC-Turbo from Infiniti and Nissan, but this powerplant is exclusive to front-wheel-drive vehicles such as the QX50 crossover and Altima sedan. VC stands for variable compression, a technology that translates to a range of compression ratios from 8:1 for high performance to 14:1 for high efficiency.
