For the 2019 model year, we were looking forward to the SkyActiv-D 2.2-liter turbo diesel to be added to the options list of the CX-5 compact crossover utility vehicle. But Mazda has other plans, which include forced induction and more luxury than ever before.
Reddit user wnightmare187 went to his local dealership to purchase the 6 Grand Touring, and as it happens, the salesman showed him an internal document for 2019 models. He then took to Imgur to upload a photograph of the document showcasing the 2019 Mazda CX-5, and as you can tell, the SkyActiv-G 2.5 T will be introduced as the range-topping option.

In the CX-9 and Mazda6, the four-cylinder turbo produces 227 horsepower on 87-octane gasoline and 250 horsepower on premium. Torque is rated at 310 pound-feet (470 Nm) of torque, and as you would expect, the SkyActiv-Drive automatic transmission will row the gears unless the driver wants to use the paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

The document also mentions G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC+), Apple CarPlay and Android Auto phone mirroring, SiriusXM Traffic Plus and Travel Link services, as well as 17-inch alloy wheels with a dark grey high-luster metallic. The i-ActivSense Package on the Grand Sport is now standard, and the Grand Touring features redesigned 19-inch alloy wheels finished in metallic silver.

On the subject of CX-5 Grand Touring, this trim level also boasts ventilated front seats, 7.0-inch LCD display for the instrument cluster, power folding mirrors with automatic operation, revised seat back angle and cushion construction, as well as HomeLink wireless control.

Regarding the CX-5 Signature, the document says it’s a means to elevate the compact crossover, “reinforce Mazda Premium, and to bridge towards the next generation of [the] product.” The lattermost part is interesting, more so when you remember the second-generation CX-5 is nothing more than an all-encompassing facelift.

Because the 2019 Mazda3 will introduce the SkyActiv-X engine to the lineup along with the next-generation Mazda vehicle platform, the CX-5 could be refreshed from the ground up sooner than expected.
