A few months ago, we checked out a comparison review between the first Dacia Duster, the Jeep Renegade, and Suzuki Vitara. And since then, two of those crossovers received downsized 3-cylinder engines.
Boy, how the market has changed. The popularity of the Renegade comes down to the image. Even though it's made in Italy and now comes with a 1-liter engine, the baby Jeep can still be viewed as a slice of the "American dream."
Engines of this type are nothing new. Ford has sold millions of them. However, we wouldn't be doing our job if we didn't mention that buying a car with a 1-liter engine made by Fiat sounds like a bad idea.
The specs aren't terrible, though, as the unit delivers 120 HP and 190 Nm of torque. It's going to be available in Britain from £19,200 in the Sport GSE 6-speed manual guise.
Jeep also prepared a second downsized engine of the 1.3-liter variety, which delivers 150 or 180 HP and 270 Nm of torque. The 2019 offering also includes the 1.6 and 2.0 Multijet II diesels which have been updated to the Euro 6d-TEMP/D with SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction).
Depending on the model, gearbox options include a 6-speed manual, DDCT (Dual Dry Clutch Transmission) and nine-speed automatic. The cosmetic changes are mild, but the new LED headlights undoubtedly add a touch of class to the crossover.
The refreshed 7-slot grille mirrors the latest Wrangler model, while fresh paint and wheels (16 to 19-inch) complete the makeover. Depending on the trim level, you either get a 5-inch or Uconnect 8.4-inch NAV infotainment, which has the latest connectivity and also integrates climate control.
“The new Jeep Renegade has all the attributes of the last version, with a host of superb new features and a high level of standard equipment,” says Andrew Tracey, Marketing Director, Jeep UK. “Safety has been further enhanced and even greater fuel economy is offered thanks to some excellent new engines."
