2019 Hyundai i30 Fastback N Teased, Debuts September 26th

Less than a week is left until Hyundai takes the veil off the third member of the N family after the i30 and Veloster. The i30 Fastback N will then premiere in the flesh at the 2018 Paris Motor Show at the beginning of October, and knowing the South Korean manufacturer, we're expecting deliveries to start in the first quarter of 2019.

For the teaser that previews the i30 Fastback N, the automaker has chosen Gabriele Tarquini to do the driving. Born in 1962, the Italian racing driver is leading the 2018 World Touring Car Cup, driving the Hyundai i30 N TCR the BRC Racing Team.

Turning our attention back to the coupe-styled interpretation of the i30 N, the Fastback is finished in the Clean Slate exterior color we know from the compact hot hatchback. Just like its more practical brother, the i30 Fastback N will be available in standard (250 PS or 247 horsepower) and Performance (275 PS or 271 horsepower) flavors.

Propulsion comes courtesy of the 2.0-liter T-GDi four-cylinder turbo engine, sending the suck-squeeze-bang-blow to the front wheels by means of a six-speed manual. Next year, Hyundai will introduce a dual-clutch transmission as an optional extra across the entire N family.

On September 26th, Gabriele Tarquini and World Rally Championship leader Thierry Neuville “will push the high-performance coupe to its limits” on a 1,422-kilometer (883-mile) trip from Rome to Paris. Not much is known about this endeavor, although Hyundai did mention something about a record.

In regard to pricing, it’s too soon to talk about this aspect, but we can get an idea about what to expect by looking at the difference between the i30 and i30 Fastback on the German configurator. The hatchback in Trend specification is €20,350, two thousand euros cheaper than the more elegant body style.

The i30 N, meanwhile, costs €30,300 and €32,800, meaning that the i30 Fastback N should retail from €32,300 and €34,800, respectively. As for options, the Komfort Paket (€1,700) and Navigation Paket (€600) are worth ticking off the list.
