When the new Ford Ranges hits U.S. dealerships in the first months of next year, it will do so accompanied by a long list of outdoor vehicle accessories branded Yakima. This is possible thanks to a new partnership agreement signed between the Blue Oval and the aftermarket parts specialist.
The move made by Ford is an obvious attempt to further boost the appeal of one of its most highly anticipated models in recent years. It is also a big bet on the vehicle personalization for the Ranger, after in 2018 the market for accessories grew to a whopping $45 billion globally according to the SEMA 2018 Market Report.

As said, the products will be offered through Ford dealerships and include kayak racks, bike racks, truck-bed storage solutions, truck-bed tents and much more (full list here). Regardless of the product chosen, Ford will offer a 3-year or 36,000-mile warranty for it.

“We know our customers see their vehicles as extensions of themselves,” said in a statement Eric Cin, Ford Vehicle Personalization director.

“With the addition of Yakima accessories, Ford aims to enhance the experiences of adventure-driven customers by delivering innovative solutions such as truck bed racks that preserve cargo space by lifting kayaks, bikes, and skis off the floor of the bed. It’s about making each adventure better.”

As for the Ranger, production for the model is already underway at the Michigan Assembly Plant. The pickup will be offered with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine and the 10-speed automatic transmission known for its use on the Mustang. The 2.0-liter EcoBlue bi-turbo diesel (packing 210 horsepower) sold in Europe will however not make it to the U.S.

Prices for the Ranger start at $25,395 including shipping. For that, customers get Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Information System, SYNC 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Wi-Fi hotspot and best-in-class payload - 1,860 pounds.
