Fortunately, Detroit's Big Three continue to up the ante on the muscle level, with the muscle car wars being stronger than ever, despite the ever-stricter emission regulations. And we are now here to enjoy a random sample of this, which comes in the form of a drag strip battle.
This quarter-mile brawl involves a 2019 Ford Mustang GT and a current-gen (it's a pre-facelift, but this doesn't change its tech side) Chevrolet Camaro SS. Heck, given the appearance of the latest Camaro SS refresh, we're probably all glad we don't have to stare at the thing.
Now, while the GM toy is a manual and seems to have been gifted with 1LE wheels, we can't be sure about the tranny of the 'Stang.
For one thing, the driver of the pony lauched with both hands on the wheel, which could point out to the fact that we're dealing with the ten-speed auto here, which would make the Ford quicker than the six-speed manual version.
Now, I wish to steer clear of runing the giggles delivered by the piece of footage at the bottom of the page, which documents the said 1,320 feet run.
Nevertheless, I can tell you that both muscle cars fall well below their ideal quarter-mile times, so we can't really trust this run to fully compare the two.
For instance, the MY18 and MY19 Mustang GT, which are animated by the Gen III Coyote, have proven they can deliver a high-11s quarter-mile in stock form and without the Performance Package Level 1 - the latter is actually focused on improving cooling and stopping power rather than improving the sprinting characteristics of the muscle car.
P.S.: The sprinting battle described above is just the first in the clip below, with the vid also showing the 2019 Mustang GT battling a MY17 model.
