As you’re well aware, the Chevrolet Camaro got uglier for the 2019 model year. But on the flip side, General Motors prepares to take the starting price down a notch.
Factoring the cost of an automatic transmission, the 2019 Chevrolet Camaro will cost in the ballpark of $27,490. The 2019 Ford Mustang EcoBoost with the 10-speed automatic transmission, on the other hand, will retail at $28,710.
How is this even possible? For starters, the Camaro 1LS with the 2.0-liter turbo will go on sale this fall from $25,995 including destination, $905 less than before. The 2LT will be $28,495, representing a price cut of $3,000.
As for the Ford Motor Company’s pony car, there are two things you should know about the 2019 model year. In addition to an increase in destination charge by $95 (now $995 instead of $900), the EcoBoost will cost $370 more than before. Adding the 10-speed automatic transmission hikes the price up by $1,595.
Cars Direct says the EcoBoost Premium will cost $32,130 for the 2019 model year, “up from $31,760. Convertibles add $5,500 to the base price of either version.” As for the Mustang GT and Bullitt special editions, the base price won’t change but both models “are subject to the same increase in destination.”
The Mustang and Camaro are arch rivals since the 1960s, and this rivalry is what made both models grow more powerful and sportier with each and every year. For the time being, the Mustang prepares to join the 700-plus-horsepower club with the Shelby GT500 and the Camaro is all about on-track performance with the ZL1 1LE.
If you’re more into muscle cars, the Dodge Challenger is up your alley. Even though the 840-horsepower Demon is no longer in production, the Hellcat in Redeye flavor offers 797 horsepower for around $70,000.
In related news, Ford prepares to launch a hybrid Mustang and Chevrolet works on a Camaro-like electric vehicle. As for Dodge, the automaker ditched plans to base the next generation on the Alfa Romeo Giorgio platform, choosing the Maserati vehicle architecture instead.
