Even though the all-new Escalade for the 2020 model year has been shown to U.S. dealers, Cadillac decided to do another special edition of the outgoing Escalade for 2019. The Sport Edition is nothing more than an appearance package, which can be specified on the Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Platinum trim levels.
Presented at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show without pomp and circumstance considering the XTS and CT6 are going away, the Escalade Sport Edition rides on 22-inch alloy wheels finished in Midnight Silver. The package’s content also includes gloss-black trim for the exterior, including the grille, window surrounds, and body moldings.
Available exclusively with the 6.2-liter small-block V8, the full-size SUV has 420 horsepower to offer. Available with both rear- and all-wheel drive, the Escalade can be specified with the latest infotainment from Cadillac, which can be complemented by 12.3 inches of digital instrument cluster. Customers who want their tunes to sound as good as possible are treated to the 16-speaker Bose Centerpoint premium audio system.
Magnetic Ride Control suspension is also offered, promising to improve the handling and ride quality. The luxurious behemoth with the Sport Edition package retails from $84,790 including the destination charge, and as a standalone option, ticking the Sport Edition off the options list translates to an additional $2,700.
“Two decades after its introduction, the Escalade remains the segment’s benchmark and sales leader,” said Steve Carlisle, Cadillac president and the replacement for Johan de Nysschen. “The Sport Edition extends that momentum in response to customer and dealer demand for a dark and aggressive look.”
Turning our attention to the 2020 model year, the all-new Escalade will share the T1XX vehicle architecture with the Silverado and Sierra. Among the newities that are more or less confirmed to happen, customers can expect independent rear suspension and the Blackwing V8 that develops 550 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque in the CT6 V-Sport.
A console-mounted shifter is in the pipeline as well, along with “gorgeous” design both inside and out. But before the 2020 Cadillac Escalade comes into focus, the crown jewel of General Motors will take the veil off the XT6 three-row crossover with similar underpinnings to the XT5.
