Based on the Opel Insignia and manufactured in Germany, the sixth generation of the Buick Regal is now available in Avenir specification. The plushest model in the lineup starts at $36,195 including the $925 destination charge, but still, the Regal GS is more exciting as a driver’s car thanks to standard all-wheel drive and a 3.6-liter V6.
Front-wheel drive and the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine are standard in the case of the Regal Avenir, plus the Hydra-Matic 9T50 automatic transmission. Included in the price are wireless charging for your mobile phone, auto-leveling LED headlights with cornering function, heated mirrors, 19-inch wheels, bespoke grille design, and sill plates with the trim level’s name on them.
The engine, which we know from other versions of the Regal Sportback, develops 250 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. If you were to shop for alternatives in the mid-size segment, the Fusion Platinum and Mazda6 Signature might be up your alley. The contender from General Motors sits bang in the middle as far as pricing is concerned, with Ford and Mazda charging $37,885 and $35,645 for their luxed-up sedan models.
Going on sale this fall, the 2019 Buick Regal Avenir also features the Driver Confidence Package from the get-go. A $1,580 option on the Regal Essence, Driver Confidence also includes safety systems such as rear park assist, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-change alert. However, the party piece of the mid-size sedan is found on the inside.
Ebony or Whisper Beige leather upholstery, diamond-quilted seats, special badging, and an all-inclusive infotainment system are on the menu. As for passenger room, the rear seat is wide enough for three adults and the roofline sits high up, offering sufficient space even for taller people.
“Avenir sales have exceeded our expectations,” said marketing boos Phil Brook. “Buick customers value the exclusive styling, premium features and convenient experience Avenir provides, and we are excited to extend that successful formula to Regal.”
If, however, the Regal isn’t to your liking, Buick offers the Avenir trim level on the LaCrosse and Enclave as well. And yes, Avenir is very much alike to the GMC Denali way of doing luxury.
