2019 BMW X7 Confirmed To Debut In October

Previously thought to premiere at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, the BMW X7 will be showcased sooner than that. Sometime during October is when the veil will be off, revealing the full-size sport utility vehicle from Spartanburg.

Series production will begin in South Carolina before the end of 2018 for the 2019 model year, and just like the CLuster ARchitecture-based X5 and X6, the newcomer will be available with six- and eight-cylinder turbocharged engine options.

The ZF 8HP eight-speed automatic will be the only transmission option on offer, sending the suck-squeeze-bang-blow to all four wheels. Hearsay suggests the sDrive40i will be added to the range at some point in the future, but it remains to be seen if BMW can make a case for rear-wheel drive. The X5, for example, comes in xDrive40i flavor as standard.

According to The Drive, “the X7 will allegedly receive a sporty X7 M variant.” This isn’t news to our ears, with multiple publications reporting on the souped-up model with more than 600 horsepower from a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8. In the M5 Competition, BMW cranked up the output to 625 horsepower.

There’s even talk of an X8 coming in a few years' time, which would adopt a coupe-like exterior design in the same fashion as the X6. But on the other hand, it’s too soon to talk about the X8.

Remember the Concept X7 iPerformance? The one-off that previews the series model is a plug-in hybrid, relying on internal combustion and electricity for propulsion. In the 740e iPerformance, BMW combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo with an electric motor, translating to 14 miles of all-electric range.

In addition to the five- and seven-seat configurations, the X7 is expected to bring forth an ultra-luxury option with two seats in the rear. After all, the X7 is the jacked-up equivalent to the 7 Series full-size sedan.
