BMW has yet to release any images of the next generation 1 Series, and our spy photographers have not managed to spot a hatchback version of the next 1 Series while testing.
In fact, except for this video showing a 1 Series Sedan, and these spyshots, BMW's next generation 1 Series has not been seen testing on public roads.
The next 1 Series is expected to come to market by 2018, which should mean that at least a prototype with heavy camouflage would have to have been driving on public roads by now. Curiously, that has not happened yet in body styles other than a sedan, or BMW engineers have successfully eluded or spy photographers.
If we take into account the fact that we live in an age when almost everyone has a camera phone in their pocket, it would be incredibly difficult to conceal a prototype on public roads in a developed country.
BMW has already announced that the upcoming 1 Series will feature its front-wheel-drive platform, which is named UKL and is already available in the lineup under the X1, 2 Series Active Tourer, and 2 Series Gran Tourer.
The German corporation also sells a range of MINI models that feature the said platform, which has been developed after a considerable investment.
The first 1 Series with front wheel drive has already been already launched, and it also brought a new premiere in the BMW range. We are referring to the 2017 BMW 1 Series Sedan, a car that was previewed by the BMW Concept Compact Sedan (seen in the main photo of this article) and that will only be sold in China.
As they say, there is a first for everything. While the European portfolio of the BMW Group is expected to receive a sedan from MINI, BMW might not leave the 1 Series range unturned.
The Gran Turismo body style, which has recently been popular among BMW designers, is considered a possibility for many, while some believe that the 1 Series will get a different body on top of the hatchback versions.
We are referring to the possibility of launching a station wagon model based on the upcoming 1 Series. It might be marketed as a different family oriented car that would address consumers who are not interested in the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. Nothing is official on the extra body style for the next 1 Series, but we still wonder why BMW has not tested a prototype on the street.
