Those of you that are particularly familiar with Audi’s range know that the RS models from the Ingolstadt brand are counted as seven, with the inclusion of the R8 and both of the body styles of the TT. In just two years, Audi wants to add eight more products to the RS offering, but it is important to remember how the company counts these elements.

If the TT’s Coupe and Roadster body styles are counted as two cars, the RS range from Audi could be expanded with just four new models with two body styles each. However, Audi does not want to play it that way, and they want to retain a level of exclusivity for the line of cars with oval exhaust tips.

Audi Sport, the department that handles the RS range from the German brand, is currently led by Mr. Stephan Winkelmann, who took over the division after leading Lamborghini.

When someone moves from Lamborghini to Audi, it is clear that he or she want to do big things, and their level of ambition is probably high enough to motivate someone to write a book.

According to the latest rumors, Audi Sport’s upcoming project involves a design based on the S5 Sportback, which could be transformed into the RS5 Sportback. The change should not be difficult to implement, as the German brand is already working on the RS5 Coupe and Cabriolet models.

Audi has not offered an RS5 Sportback before, but the RS7 Sportback did exist, and the company has undoubtedly considered launching a smaller brother. The S5 Sportback might be the perfect recipient of a transplant like this, because it could bring new clients to the brand without diluting its spirit.

Just like the RS5 Coupe, the alleged RS5 Sportback should feature a turbocharged V6 engine, which should deliver something above 450 HP. We are about 12 months away from the launch of the 2018 Audi RS5 Coupe, which means that a potential performance oriented Sportback model could come within 18 months from now.
