Following a multitude of spy photos and a leak, the 2019 Audi A6 goes official with A7 Sportback-inspired styling. It’s a good-looking car the C8 generation, with the sedan looking particularly nice when equipped with the S Line exterior package.
First of all, let’s talk drivetrain. Two engine options will be available at launch, namely the 3.0-liter TDI and 3.0-liter TFSI. Both V6 mills come with 48-volt mild hybridization in the form of a belt alternator starter powered by a lithium-ion battery.
The fuel efficiency improvement offered by the BAS is up to 0.7 liters of fuel for every 100 kilometers, with the system recovering up to 12 kW of energy during deceleration. The coasting function of the belt alternator starter is automatically engaged at speeds between 55 and 160 km/h (34 to 99 miles per hour).
In regard to output, the six-cylinder turbo diesel is rated at 286 horsepower and 620 Nm (457 pound-feet) of torque, coming as standard with an eight-speed tiptronic transmission and quattro. The 3.0-liter TFSI quattro, on the other hand, is connected to a seven-speed S tronic and churns out 340 horsepower and 500 Nm (369 pound-feet).
Customers in the market for sportiness can get a sport differential as an optional extra, but curiously enough, it’s exclusive to models equipped with the tiptronic transmission. Dynamic all-wheel steering is also available, with a spindle drive turning the rear wheels as much as 5 degrees, thus enhancing the agility of the car.
Practicality? At 4,939 millimeters (16.2 feet) long and with a longer wheelbase than the previous generation, the C8 A6 offers more room for both the front and rear occupants. The trunk, meanwhile, is adequately cavernous at 530 liters (18.7 cu.ft.).
In regard to customization, 14 body colors are offered at launch in Europe. The cabin, which is chock-full of displays, can be specified with goodies such as open-pore wood. In total, there are five interior color-material combos on offer: basic, sport, design, design selection, and S Line sport.
Scheduled to go on sale in Germany in June, the A6 starts at €58,050 for the 50 TDI quattro. Pricing for the U.S.-spec model will be announced later.
