The new off-road and leisure vehicle is built on a compact new chassis to assure the 4-seater a confident and agile performance. Its wheelbase is only 35 mm longer that the 2-seat Wolverine-R while its overall length of 3,100 mm makes the vehicle easy to be hauled on a general-purpose trailer and deployed where needed.

Power is supplied by a new low-mounted 850 cc parallel-twin engine delivering over 80 Nm of torque between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm. The unit is developed using Yamaha’s proven crossplane concept, featuring a long stroke and a 270-degree crank that gives an irregular firing sequence. The company says it’s one of the quietest and smoothest powerplants in the class.

The Wolverine X4’s generous cabin offers full-sized seats featuring high backs and premium cushioning with stitched covers to ensure everyone can travel in comfort. The two rear seats are mounted 100 mm higher than the front ones to give passengers a good view ahead.

Up front, the driver’s seat offers 100 mm of front/rear adjustability while the steering can also tilt 12 degrees for a better fit. The vehicle also comes with high profile doors to help protect from water and mud splashes.

Another important feature on the Wolverine X4 is the self-leveling rear shocks which help maintain the vehicle ride height by automatically compensating for different loads. This way, the vehicle assures smooth and effective suspension characteristics all the time no matter how passengers are on board.

Other features include LED headlights and taillights, new Yamaha Ultramatic automatic transmission, foldaway rear seats, new dashboard with dimmable lights, on-command 2WD/4WD/Diff lock, 26-inch off-road tires, one hand tailgate operation, and full size cargo bed.

On a side note, other Yamaha side-by-side vehicles have received their fare share of 2018 upgrades. For the Wolverine-R, there are new colors, aluminum cast wheels, and a Seat Belt Inter Lock system on the exclusive EPS model which prevents the engine from starting if the occupants don’t buckle up.

The YXZ1000R comes with newly calibrated FOX RC2 shocks and updated FOX podium X2 shocks for the SE model. Both are also sporting new rear arm guards, stronger rear skid plate, and new colors and graphics.

The YXZ1000R SS and YXZ1000R SS SE benefit from the same enhanced suspension, protection elements, and new graphics. For prices and more information visit your local Yamaha dealer.
