Remember the 2010 Geneva Motor Show's Volkswagen CrossPolo? You probably don't and Wolfsburg plans to do something about this.
In fact, you're looking at the automaker's plan to boost its subcompact crossover market presence right now. We're talking about a high-riding proposal based on the next-generation VW Polo.

Don't let the tons of camo and the psychedelic wrap confuse you - if you're looking for styling hints, this year's Geneva Motor Show, with its Volkswagen T-Cross Breeze concept should provide a hint for the styling direction of the upcoming model, but don't expect the open roof to stick around.

Once the new VW Polo makes its debut next year (the current model debuted at the 2009... Geneva Motor Show), the German automaker will also introduce the jacked-up version spied here.

Since the modular MQB architecture will be found underneath both models, this is set to bring plenty of benefits. For one thing, the subcompacts will make better use of their (otherwise larger) exterior dimensions, thus offering more cabin room and extra luggage capacity.

Then there's the tech aspect: it all starts with a rich bouquet of downsized gasoline and diesel engines. Aside from various 1.0-liter three-cylinder units, a family of 1.5-liter powerplants will replace the current 1.4-liter gasoline and 1.6-liter diesel engines. It's too early to talk about a hybrid powertrain, though.

The MQB platform also means this won't be one of those crossovers that come in FWD-only form, with AWD set to make its way onto the list of options. Factor in the optional DSG double-clutch transmission and you've got a complete package.

On the Old Continent, the upcoming Vee-Dub crossover will battle vehicles such as the Nissan Juke, the Renault Captur and the Mazda CX-3. As for the US market entry, this remains a possibility - with the Polo-based crossover expected to debut late next year or in the first months of 2018, the American availability matter should be clarified soon.
