The style marker of the Volkswagen brand, as well as the automaker’s newest crossover, have been spied roaming on the freeway near San Francisco. Both pre-production vehicles are painted white, and for what it’s worth, it seems that VW plans to introduce them both in the United States in the near future.
Coming courtesy of Imgur user Giantsfan107YGO, the photographs depict two Volkswagen models that are currently exclusive to Europe. Take the Arteon for example, which is the fastback counterpart of the B8 Passat. In stark contrast to how the cookie crumbles in the Old Continent, the Passat sold in North America is a different car under the body shell, more akin to the Chinese B7 Passat rather than the seventh generation of the Euro model.

The T-Roc, meanwhile, rides on the MQB platform shared with the Golf, and it blurs the line between the compact and subcompact segments. Longer than the Polo and with 15 millimeters more ground clearance than the ever-popular Golf, the all-new crossover plays the design card like it owns the place. And to keep customers happy, 4Motion all-wheel-drive is available.

“Are you sure Volkswagen intends to bring these two to America?” If I had a nickel, I’d bet on the affirmative answer. Other than the fact the two models have been spied testing stateside, it’s worthy of mention Volkswagen has invited the U.S. motoring media to pre-launch test drives of the Arteon and T-Roc. On both occasions, the automaker paid for travel to South Africa, lodging, and food. If your old man is right about anything, one of those things would be the adage that goes like there ain’t no such thing as a free lunch.

In the case of the Arteon, it’s best to expect the U.S.-spec model to be propelled by the 2.0 TSI turbocharged inline-four, with power sent to either the front or all wheels by an eight-speed automatic transmission developed by Aisin. As for the all-new T-Roc, the 190 PS (187 horsepower) variant of the 2.0-liter TSI is most likely to make the cut as the range-topping plant.
