Introduced in 2010, the second generation of the Alhambra is twinned with the Sharan. In other news, the SEAT minivan rides on one of the oldest platform produced by the Volkswagen Group, and that doesn’t sit well with the well-informed customer.
Even though crossovers and sport utility vehicles are steadily replacing minivans, SEAT decided to give the Alhambra one last chance to shine before the Spanish automaker will pull the plug on the model. Expected to be replaced by the Tarraco seven-seat SUV, the Alhambra is now available in Xcellence flavor.

Positioned within the range above the Reference and Style trim levels, the Xcellence adds “a hot stamped front grill, parking sensors, keyless entry, chromed window frames, chromed roof rails,” as well as specific doorsteps and upholstery. The 18-inch alloy wheels are also new, and the SEAT logo up front houses the radar of the Front Assist safety system.

Lane Assist and a front-facing multifunction camera are also in the offing, as is the chrome finish of the window frames. LED illumination and two additional USB ports can be found inside, and as you can tell, the Alhambra Xcellence doesn’t excel (pun intended) at anything.

Depending on the market, SEAT will offer one gasoline and three diesel engine options. The range will start with the 115-horsepower 2.0 TDI and 150-horsepower 1.4 TSI. 150- and 177-horsepower versions of the four-cylinder turbo diesel are also available. In addition to front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual, customers can further the Alhambra Xcellence with DSG and 4Drive.

In related news, SEAT just published the sales figures for the the period from January to July 2018. No less than 342,700 vehicles were delivered in this timeframe, representing an increase in volume of 20.1 percent over the same period in 2017. The previous seven-month sales record was set in 2000, when the automaker delivered 324,400 units.

“SEAT is posting record volumes thanks to the offensive of models including the Ateca and the Arona,” said vice-president for marketing & sales Wayne Griffiths. And even though he didn’t mention it specifically, it’s those crossovers that will ultimately kill off the Alhambra.

The best month for the Alhambra in 2018 is June, when SEAT sold 2,386 units of the minivan in Europe. In June 2017, by comparison, the automaker sold 3,484 units.
