Rolls-Royce engineers are currently out there on the road, working to complete the development of the next-generation Phantom.

We've shown you the first spyshots of a prototype sporting the production headlights and taillights earlier this week and now we're back with a fresh set of photos.

Notice how, despite all the camouflage, the massive stance of the thing, a feature of any Rolls-Royce model, does exactly what it's designed to do, namely act as a humongous wall separating the occupants of the prototype from those outside the car.

We can guess a few features of the luxurious sedan, though. For instance, notice how the redesigned front apron appears to be less wide than before. As for the rear end of the lavish vehicle, the elongated C-pillar comes to continue the slightly swooping roofline in a harmonious manner.

However, while the exterior design will follow the evolutionary pathway, there will be serious changes under the skin. As the Goodwood-based automaker has confirmed, it is currently working on a new platform that will underpin its future models, with this set to help the lavish model shed some serious weight.

For now, we can be certain that the architecture, which will obviously debut with the eight-generation Phantom we have here and will also serve as the base for the company's upcoming Cullinan SUV. Those of you who missed our Cullinan spyshots can find them here and shouldn't be surprise to see the SUV's test mule is a... Phantom.

While the Brits haven't hinted at any autonomous driving technologies for the upcoming range-topper, we're expecting Phantom chauffeurs to have even less excuses for any potential errors once the vehicle makes its debut.

The new Rolls-Royce Phantom should land next year, as a 2018 model, so we have plenty of time to bring you fresh details by then.
