Described by its maker as being ultra-luxurious, the Tungsten Edition is Ram Truck’s most lavish pickup for 2018. The model joins an additional 10 trim levels, and of course, it is available for both the half-ton 1500 and heavy-duty 2500 and 3500.
Still making a case for building “America’s longest-lasting pickups” based on an arbitrary study, Ram Truck boasts with the Tungsten Edition’s visual identity. Beyond the tungsten-colored grille, the headlights surrounds are blacked out for maximum aesthetic effect. Elsewhere, exterior trim is finished in the body’s color. As for interior bits and bobs, well, it’s really plush in there.
Suede headliner? Check! Premium carpeted mats, wood trim, and two-tone leather upholstery? Check, check, and check! The feature that tops the interior's goodies list is shared with all 2018 Ram 1500 trim levels, and that is the Android Auto- and Apple CarPlay-enabled 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system. Also standard are Remote Services, SOS Call, and SiriusXM Guardian.
As ever, the most fuel-efficient engine available for the Ram 1500 is the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6. Developed by VM Motori and codenamed L630 in North America, the oil-chugging plant delivers up to 29 miles per gallon, developing 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. The EcoDiesel is joined by the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with variable-valve timing.
The 2500 and 3500 models, meanwhile, rely on the 5.7-liter HEMI and the 6.4-liter variant, as well as the 900-lb.ft. 6.7-liter Cummins inline-six turbo diesel. When equipped properly, the heavy-duty Ram 3500 won’t break a sweat if you plan on towing a massive 31,210 pounds. In terms of max payload, customers of the 2018 Ram 3500 can look forward to 7,390 pounds.
2018 is probably the last model year for the current-generation Ram, with the automaker set to unveil the all-new Ram 1500 in January at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. There’s talk the current model will be built alongside the new DT, but no word came from Fiat Chrysler to support this particular rumor.
