With the big-rig design of the second-generation Ram, it was clear that Dodge offered the best-looking and most lavish pickup truck in North America. The trend continued for the next two decades, and even the next-generation model will soldier on with these attributes. But for a change, the 2018 model year of the light- and heavy-duty Ram lineups welcome the Harvest Edition.
Billed as “the first truck designed specifically for the agriculture industry,” the Harvest Edition differs from the regular model through two exclusive exterior colors: Case IH Red and New Holland Blue. “The Ram Harvest Edition marks the first time that Ram dealers will be able to stock trucks that exactly match the colors of two of the most popular lines of farm equipment in the nation,” commented Mike Manley, head honcho of the pickup truck-building company.

Whichever way you look at it, matching one’s workhorse with the farm tractor is probably the daftest marketing scheme in ages from Ram Truck. Despite the shallow backstory, make no mistake about the imminent commercial success of the Harvest Edition, especially in southern states where Ram rules supreme.

Available in 1500, 2500, and 3500 flavors, the newcomer can be had with four doors in Quad Cab, Crew Cab, and Mega Cab configurations. The options list for the Harvest Edition includes all bed lengths and all powertrains, ranging from the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 up to the 6.7-liter Cummins turbo diesel inline-six. The sweet spot of the lineup is the sufficiently resourceful 6.4-liter HEMI V8.

In the case of the light-duty 1500, customers can expect one inch of additional ride height, the added capability of off-road tires, tubular side steps, fold-out bumper step, spray-in bedliner, mud flaps, skid plates, and tow hooks. As far as the cabin is concerned, here you’ll find heated seats and rubber floor mats.

The heavy-duty 2500 and 3500 differ from the 1500 with the addition of a cargo-view camera. Regardless of model, the Harvest Edition comes standard with the Uconnect 4C 8.4-inch touchscreen, complete with 4G Internet connectivity, Wi-Fi hotspot, sat nav, Apple CarPlay, as well as Android Auto.

Pricing-wise, the 2018 Ram 1500 Harvest Edition kicks off at $39,910 without taking into account the $1,395 destination and handling. The 2500 Harvest Edition, meanwhile, retails from $46,235. Look forward to these agriculture-oriented babies hitting dealer showrooms in the third quarter of 2017.
