Porsche is hard at work testing the upcoming Cayenne, and our spy photographers managed to snap a few pics of the interior of a pre-production prototype.
The images you can see in the gallery come from our friends at CarPix, and they show a glimpse of the interior of the 2018 Cayenne. As you can observe, the central console has changed significantly.
We find a simplified set of controls, a new gearshift selector, a modified position of the air vents and climate controls.
The prototype has a gigantic multimedia screen placed in a landscape format. Automakers like Tesla and Renault have gone for the portrait layout, but Porsche appears to have remained faithful to the former.
Looking at the gauge cluster, we notice the signature tachometer, placed in a carefully delimited circle. However, other analog gauges are not visible.
Taking into account the fact that the Volkswagen Group has developed an excellent digital display, we believe the 2018 Cayenne will bring a mix of an analog tachometer and a virtual dashboard. The other possibility is that the dash is split into two screens, and the divider is the analog unit.
At this point, we must note that this vehicle is a prototype, so it has what it takes to operate on public roads, but it is far from production ready. As you can observe in the photo gallery, there are three people in the vehicle, and they are all working on the development of the model. The passenger has at least two monitors in front of him, yet still goes to work in a prototype wearing a suit and tie. Now that’s a classy engineer right there!
On the outside, the 2018 Cayenne prototype is built on the body shell of the ongoing model. Therefore, it features minimal camouflage, as well as a set of sensors placed outside and positioned with good-old duct tape. Classy, but in an engineering way.
