We are now back on the topic, but instead of the GT3 RS-engined racecar, we're here to show you Zuffenhausen testing the revised iteration of the street 911 GT3.
Now that the most popular models in the Neunelfer line-up have gone through the 991.2 revamp, it's time for the GT3 to be touched by the mid-cycle refresh magic wand.
With limited editions such as the 911 R or the GT3 RS grabbing attention like a magnet, certain people tend to forget how important the "standard" GT3 is. Fortunately, German engineers are working on this 911 derivative and are rumored to give us a big topic to discuss, namely the return of the three-pedal GT3.
With Porsche admitting the 911 R was an afterthought born after customer and media feedback showed the need for a manual in cars like the GT3 and GT3 RS, it looks like the GT3 is getting a stick. Expect a similar gearbox to the six-speed in the 911 R, rather than the Carrera's 7-speed.
With Porsche out testing so early in the season, there's little to be observed about the prototype spied here. Even so, we expect the flat-six to get a slight power bump, while the electronics should allow for even more sideways shenanigans. Since the Carrera models are now forced-fed, the GT3 will only be more precious for aficionados.
While the new 911 GT3 should enter the market next year, we're uncertain about the future of the GT3 RS. However, as we've recently shown you, Porsche seems to be working on the 991 generation's GT2. Essentially a 911 Turbo with more power and rear-wheel-drive, the new GT2 will be something to think about long after you've closed the browser window. But that's another turbocharged story for another time.
