2018 Porsche 911 GT2 - What We Know So Far

Porsche seems to have delayed the 911 GT2 far too long, because the previous generation of this model left the market over six years ago.

Fortunately, we already know that a new 911 GT2 is ready for production, and our spy photographers have snapped pictures of the prototype as early as March 2016.

Today, Porsche’s 911 GT2 has yet to be available on the market, which has made many people wonder how much longer they would have to wait for this version of the model, which is expected to be followed by an RS variant.

The previous generation of the Porsche 911 was launched with a GT2 that came right after the “standard” model, but the 991 generation of the "Neunelfer" has already been facelifted without a GT2 model in sight. We must note that the 911 GT2 RS is supposed to be followed by an RS model, which came with the next model year in the case of the previous generation.

The current Porsche 911 will get its GT2 version in 2017, with cars expected to be sold and delivered before the 2018 model year enters the manufacturing stage. Usually, the 911 GT2 RS should come at the beginning of 2018, but that would be a six-year hiatus since that model left its production line, which might be too much even for Porsche aficionados.

Instead, it is believed that Porsche might launch the 911 GT2 RS at the same time as the GT2 model, or that the former will come on the market at a later date during the same year that marks the introduction of this car. Evidently, both versions will be more expensive than the current variations of the 911 available in showrooms.

The 911 GT2 is expected to develop at least 620 HP, which was the power level of the previous generation 911 GT2 RS. In the case of that variant based on the 991 generation, the power figure could be close to 700 HP, mainly because Porsche has advanced its engine technology since 2010.

Regardless of the final power value of this car, expect it to be the swan song of the current 911, and it will probably remain in production for a maximum of two years.
