That's right ladies and gentlemen drivers, Porsche still hasn't released the Nurburgring number for the 2018 911 GT2 RS. Our anticipation level has gone through the (carbon) roof and the fact that a pack of prototypes is lapping the infamous German circuit only adds to the teasing.
Since we can't beat Zuffenhausen's sealed lips attitude, we've decided to join the Germans - we've brought along a piece of Ring footage that shows multiple test cars for the Rennsport Neunelfer doing their thing on the Green Hell.
As we've mentioned on countless occasions, we could see King Kong setting a new lap record for production cars. For one thing, the considerably less vicious 991.2 GT3, wits its 500 hp naturally aspirated motor, managed to lap the track in 7:12.7.
The said accolade would require the 700 hp rear-wheel-drive special to beat the Lamborghini Huracan Performante's chronograph performance, with the 640 hp Raging Bull having lapped the track in 6:52.
Keep in mind that Porsche and Mercedes-AMG are currently involved in a more or less official war for Ring supremacy. For now, Affalterbach has the sharpest weapon and we're talking about the 7:10 Mercedes-AMG GT R. And the three-pointed star's hot division won't stop here. As we recently showed you in a series of spyshots, Mercedes-AMG is testing an even spicier incarnation of the GT.
The first images of the Neunelfer have now leaked online, just one day ahead of the official unveiling of the pack, which takes place at the Frankfurt Motor Show. In fact, we even got our keyboards on the first real-world image of the Touring Pack GT3, with the rear-engined machine having been spotted in a Stuttgart garage.
