Take a good look at the image above. No, really, take your time to enjoy what is probably a stunning piece of Nurburgring history. And that's because this is a 2018 911 GT2 RS adventure teaser that the German automaker just dropped on Instagram.

The German automotive producer's message was simple: "Here we go again. Look out for the story behind this image on coming Wednesday,"

As such, we'll save the date, namely September 27 and keep an eye out for any rumors that might surface meanwhile. For one thing, the unofficial info that has landed so far is wild enough to keep us awake at night.

You see, the latest major rumor on the matter talks about the Porsche 911 GT2 RS having lapped the Ring in 6:48.75 last week. For now, we've labeled this info as an educated guess, but since it's coming from the owner of Edo Competition, a tuner that has enjoyed a fruitful relationship with Zuffenhausen, we are paying attention to it.

And there are plenty of other reasons that show such a chronograph number would be reasonable for the angriest street-legal Neunelfer in the history of the model.

For instance, you should keep in mind that the 991.2 incarnation of the GT2 RS first set wheel on the infamous German circuit one year ago. At first, it seemed like Zuffenahsuen was simply testing the new rear-wheel-drive special, but it didn't take all that long before the rumors about the record-setting potential of the machine landed.

Another important step towards keeping this fire alive was made by Mark Webber, who let it slip that the rear-engined animal hit 208 mph on the Nordschleife's main straight.

Until we get more details on the matter, we'll spend quite some time indulging in each and every pixel of this image showing a Weissach Package-gifted GT2 RS doing its thing on the Carousel.

Here we go again. Look out for the story behind this image on coming Wednesday.
