2018 Porsche 911 GT2 Prototype Spotted in Californian Traffic, an Idling Beast

Porsche engineers are currently working overtime to complete the development of the 991-generation GT2 and we're here to show you one of the development vehicles that was spotted in California.

The piece of footage at the bottom of the page, which comes from Instagram user ddwcarsinaz, shows the GT2 prototype driving together with a 991 GT3. Even at the kind of idle revs displayed here, the twin-turbo flat-six at the rear of the supercar sounds like it wants to have a word or two with some Lamborghinis.

With the boxer unit, which is essentially a pumped-up version of the 911 Turbo / Turbo S heart, expected to sit somewhere in the 600+ hp area, we should be in for quite a party. Oh, and let's not forget that there's a strong possibility for the GT2 RS to pack a six-speed manual, even though nothing has been officially confirmed yet.

While the footage might be four weeks old, it's still strange to see the GT2 test car still wearing the front fender air extractors borrowed from the GT3 RS. And that's because European GT2 prototypes have ditched those extractors for quite some months now.

Speaking of Old Continent GT2 testing, just yesterday we showed you a prototype flying on the Nurburgring, with Zuffenhausen having returned to the Nordschleife before the end of the 2016 testing season.

Once again, the spotter tester gets the GT2 RS tag, but we still don't understand why Porsche would skip the "normal" GT2 and jump straight to the Rennsport incarnation or why the automaker would deliver the GT2 RS so early - this typically arrives towards the final part of a generation's life cycle.

However, if we are to belive some of the wildest rumors out there, the GT2 will already be sold out when it makes its debut next year - How high do your rank on the Porsche VIP list?
