2018 Mercedes E-Class Coupe Design Details Revealed by Less Camouflaged Test Car

While we've spied the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe on numerous occasions, we are now finally able to zoom in on the styling details of the two-door. And that's because the pre-production prototype we have here has dropped an important part of the camouflage covering the test cars we've seen in the past.

In our book, the new E-Class' two-door incarnation benefits more from the current design language of the German automaker than most other models in the line-up.

The old E Coup always seemed a bit... forced to us, as if its styling cues told the story of its parts bin platform - the model actually used a C-Class architecture.

Thanks to the lines we can see on this Red 2018 E-Class Coupe, the model seems to mix the new-age styling mentioned above with the traditional elegance displayed by classic Mercedes-Benz models. And since we still can't see the face of the car, here are some recent spyshots showing the grille.

All in all, the spied prototype seems closer to the sumptuous road presence of the S-Class Coupe than to the compact alure of the two-door C-Class. So yes, we can safely say that the W213 generation means the E-Class Coupe finally gets the looks it deserves.

The same can be said about the tech side of the car, with the fresh platform meaning that the rear passengers will enjoy greater room.

Then there's the tech side of the car. With the carmaker working to return to the straight-six architecture next year, a turbocharged in-line six smoothly delivering loads of torque is just what such a Grand Tourer needs to shine.

This time around, Affalterbach should also include the Coupe on its E-Class list. And after we've seen just how fast the 2018 Mercedes-AMG E63 Sedan can be during Nurburgring testing, we can't wait to check out what happens when the two-door model gets the 600+ hp 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 treatment.

Sure, we'll have some waiting to do before we get to see any E63 Coupe intentions, but with the "standard" version of the car set to debut next year, we'll have plenty of goodies keeping us busy meanwhile.
