The Mercedes-Benz GLA is getting closer and closer to its mid-cycle facelift and we're here to show you the freshest spy clip of the compact crossover.
As we noted earlier this week when we showed you another 2018 GLA Facelift test car, the German engineers have decided to finally let the model explore its crossover nature.

To be more precise, the revamped testers sport a ground clearance that's considerably higher compared to that of the current model. As standard, the current GLA comes with a ride height of 140 mm (5.5 inches), while the sports suspension option (which must be linked to the Handling Package or the AMG line), the value drops by more than half an inch.

And with the Offroad Package, which raises the ground clearance to a respectable 170 mm (6.7 inches) not proving a popular option, most GLAs you see on the street nowadays pack the rugged terrain abilities of... your average hatchback.

The prototype we previously showed you had its headlights and taillights covered, indicating the expected slight inner graphics change brought by the refresh, the one we have here only had its bumpers covered.

However, the front and rear light clusters seem to be identical to that of the pre-facelift model, with the exception of the light bar at the top of the headlights. While we have to note we're dealing with the entry-level light package (the upper models have different light units, being available with full-LED lights all-round), even these basic clusters should change for the revamp.

As far as the tech details go, the engine compartment contents shouldn't see important changes. That's because the automaker is currently developing a new modular engine family, which is set to debut on the company's next-generation compact platform. Dubbed MFA2, we've already seen the architecture at work under the fourth-generation A-Class prototype (here are the spyshots, in case you missed them).

The vehicle we see testing here will make its debut next year, coming as a 2018 model. Until then, those of you who wonder what makes the GLA so special can check out our 2,000-mile Mercedes-AMG GLA45 roadtrip.
