2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe Spied in Germany

Mercedes-Benz is currently working on a challenger for the BMW 6 Series, a contender that is based on the acclaimed W213 E-Class mid-size executive sedan. What I’m referring to is the E-Class Coupe and, soon after its launch in 2017, the E-Class Convertible.

The ragtop is expected to debut late in 2017 and start production in 2018, which is why today we will focus on the two-door coupe variant. Our carparazzi caught the Merc hiding its goodies under lots of camouflage.

Despite the effort put into masking the sheet metal, there’s no fooling anyone that the roofline is marginally lower and the wheelbase appears to be identical to that of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class four-door sedan.

Focus your sight on the glasshouse and you’ll also notice that there are no window frames. Simply put, Mercedes-Benz is playing the elegance card with the E-Class Coupe. This is a purely subjective point of view, but the rear end and rear three-quarters look better than those of the C-Class Coupe, especially in terms of proportions. The taillight graphic of the E-Class Coupe, however, does appear to be different from that of the C-Class Coupe and S-Class Coupe.

Engine options? Oh, why did you have to ask that? Now I’ll have to tell you that the E-Class Coupe will be available with a four-cylinder turbo diesel engine shared with the E 220 d. On the upside, Mercedes-Benz will also offer the E-Class Coupe with a full-on AMG V8 with two turbochargers for good measure. All engines, save for the fire-breathing AMG eight-cylinder, will be paired with the 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission. Alongside rear-wheel-drive, some engine options will be offered with 4Matic.

In the United States of America and Canada, sales of the all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe are expected to commence in the fall of 2017, just in time for the 2018 model year.
