With the E-Class Cabriolet having turned 25 last month, we've been wondering when we get to see the prototype of the 2018 open-top E-Klasse ever since.
Well, here we are, bringing you a spy clip that shows the 2018 E-Class Cabriolet prototype in traffic. The German automaker is still deadly serious about the camouflage of the A238-codenamed prototypes, with the cladding and the psychedelic wrap doing a pretty good job at hiding the details of the model from us.
However, the bits beneath the surface are what matters most. The upcoming convertible will be nothing short of a stunner, having all the right assets for such a label.
For one thing, the time we spent with the ex-generation E-Class Cabrio was a bit of an oasis, despite the model being animated by a turbo-four (the E250) and using a medium trim level. The melange involving the serenity of the E-Class, the AirCap anti-draught system German engineers have been perfecting since 1991, as well as other features, will instantly allow you to have a good time.
And with the new W213 generation of the E-Class meaning the Cabriolet and the Coupe ditch the parts bin build that saw the previous models riding on an elongated ex-gen C-Class architecture, things will only get better.
Speaking of refinement, the German automaker is expected to bring back its straight-sixes in 2017 and this should be a perfect match for the 2018 E-Class Cabriolet. Oh, and let's not forget the new 9G-Tronic tranny, which should benefit both comfort and efficiency.
Hopefully, AMG will no longer steer clear of the E's Cabrio incarnation. And with the Affalterbach wizards dropping a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 under the hood, boulevard cruising will become might spicier than expected.
As for the timetable, we are now about one year away from the debut of the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet.
