The 2017 Lincoln Navigator Concept had crazy show car features befitting something that's being promoted by Matthew McConaughey. But the concepts that are shown by Lincoln usually stay very close to what the production will look like.
Thus, we have a pretty good idea of what to expect when the all-new 2018 model year flagship SUV arrives next year. With the Range Rover and all those sexy German SUVs on the market, Lincoln has realized now is not the time to be taking things easy. So it's dumping all the features it's developing for the Continental sedan into this.
The coolest feature are the gullwing doors. Maybe they were inspired by the Tesla Model X electric crossover, but we just don't see them making it into production, at least not this century. Instead, our rendering of the day features conventional door hinges, and we have absolutely no problem with that.
The new Navigator is design-oriented. It's sort of like a Bentley in appearance, and that's because David Woodhouse, the design director for Lincoln, has that kind of accent.
The front end is well lit, to say the least. Besides the LED headlights, there's a strip at the bottom of the bumper and one of those illuminated emblems in the middle of a grille even Mercedes would be jealous of.
One major feature you can't pick up from this latest rendering made by X-Tomi is that the Navigator, the new one, is going to be of a monumental size. You know the weird feeling you get when a lighted truck parks next to your car? Well, this is going to be just like that, only more luxurious and covered in chrome.
The interior of the concept features a double-cockpit setup with a large center console going down the middle. The instrument cluster and dashboard are made up of two gigantic screens while two more tables have been installed into the backs of the headrests. The reversing mirror is not a mirror and instead uses the feed from a camera to give you an extra-wide viewing angle, just like Cadillac has been offering.
We don't know very much about the powertrain that will be offered, but it seems the one thing that makes Lincoln models better than their Cadillac rivals is turbocharging, so that should be taken into account.
