Kia engineers have begun testing the next generation of the Cee’d hatchback, their proposal for the compact segment in Europe.
The South Korean contender of the Volkswagen Golf is expected to come to market as 2018 model, and it will share the platform launched on the Hyundai i30. A keen observer of Korean models designed for Europe will notice that the new Kia will share its window line with the i30.

In fact, the link between the i30 and the Cee’d is even stronger than a window line, because the two hatchbacks share their engines, safety systems, technologies, and many more components. Some call this a rebadging, because the Kia model comes with a different front and rear, as well as a slightly modified interior.

The example you can see in the photo gallery does not reveal its interior, but that is not a predicament, because it is an early prototype of the next Cee’d. The camouflage layer that has been placed on this vehicle is rather dense, but you can still see the Kia “tiger nose” front grille under it, as well as LED daytime running lights in the headlamps.

Kia’s engineers were testing two prototypes of the next Cee’d near their European technical development center, which is located in Germany. Unlike other prototypes, this model did not receive tape on its wheel hubs, which means that the Kia logo can be seen without any effort. The minor mishap is understandable, because the tires and the rims are brand new, and they even have the stickers to show that.

Kia is expected to reveal the next Cee’d at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. If the model is somehow not completed by then, the 2018 Geneva Motor Show could mark its launch on the European market.

We do not expect to see the production version of this vehicle at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show because that even is just four months away, and this is the first ever prototype of the third-generation Cee’d spotted in the wild.
