2018 Jeep Wrangler Confirmed to Spawn Crew Cab Pickup Truck

People with a passion for Jeep, rejoice! Slated to debut in 2017 for the 2018 model year, the Jeep Wrangler JL has been confirmed to bring about a crew cab pickup truck model. The pickup isn’t rumor mill BS, but the promise of Mark Allen.

Speaking to the peeps at Outsideonline, the head of design at Jeep has said the following: “Oddly enough, though, we’ve never done a crew cab pickup before. Hint, hint.” Need I say more? Fine, here goes: “I can’t explain too much, but there may be things you see on the Crew Chief that you might see on that truck.” On what truck, you’re asking? Allen is referring to the 2016 Jeep Crew Chief 715 Concept (pictured).

Presented at the Easter Jeep Safari with great pomp and circumstance, the Crew Chief is one of, if not the coolest concept Jeep has made in the last decade. The bad news is that the all-new Jeep Wrangler pickup truck will not feature the Gladiator-inspired slanted nose. It’s cool, alright, but it’s too retro, too yesterday’s news. Another design element that won’t be applied from the Crew Chief to the Wrangler pickup truck is the stamped tailgate logo. And the explanation is quite plain.

According to Allen, such a tailgate is “fraught with quality issues.” However, don’t boo and hiss because “that doesn’t mean there won’t be something back there,” albeit not a stamped Jeep logotype. With the 2018 model year Wrangler, the bread and butter of the American brand will get lighter, safer, and more frugal. Some voices have claimed that we should look forward to a hybrid variant of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler, with a powertrain inspired by that of the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid.

In related news, the range-topping Jeep Grand Wagoneer is expected to arrive in 2018 for the 2019 model year. Expected to rival the likes of the Range Rover, the luxurious full-size sport utility vehicle will be slotted above the Grand Cherokee and will reportedly be motivated by Maserati twin-turbo V6 engines, including a 3.8-liter with 560 HP. The future of the Jeep brand does sound enticing, doesn’t it?
